"Some of the most memorable honeymoons have been spent entirely in a hotel room". But the details that I am going to share with you, will excite you to jump off your beds and explore the destination. So today friends, lets explore one of the honeymoon destinations in Kerala.

      ALLEPPEY Means a land between the sea, where a network of rivers flow in it.

ABOUT THE CITY:  The city is established on a narrow land between the Arabian Sea and Vembanad Lake. The numerous waterways, lagoons, backwaters, canals and lakes of Alleppey has given it a name as "VENICE OF THE EAST".

SITUATED IN:  KERALA

BEST TIME TO VISIT: Between the months of August- February. If your plan includes spending significant time on a boat in the backwaters, Alleppey is fun to travel through May, June and July.

  • BACKWATERS: Alleppey's calm backwaters are one of the most visited spots in Kerala and has become a popular honeymoon destination and beautiful setting to view bird and animal life. One of the best way to enjoy the backwaters is by renting a houseboat.
  • KETTUVALLAMS: Also known as "RICE BOATS", are used as a houseboat, the kettuvallams take you across the meandering tranquil backwaters, navigating you through the rural life of Kerala folk. Kettuvallams are now available with a/c facilities and other convenient amenities. 
  • PATHIRAMANAL ISLAND: Situated between Thaneermukkom and Kumarakom, the island gets to see a lot of rare migratory birds. The island is only accessible by boat.
MODE OF TRANSPORT:
  1.  AIR: Cochin International Airport (75 km) and Trivandrum International Airport (150 km) are the closest to Alleppey. From there Alleppey can be reached by taxis. Trivandrum and Cochin are well connected to major cities in India.
  2. RAIL: Alleppey is connected by trains plying between Cochin and Trivandrum.
  3. ROAD: Alleppey is well connected by road. NH 47 passes through Alleppey.

You can also visit Vijaya Restaurant on Jetty Rd, for good South Indian veg varieties.


There are two outlets of Indian Coffee House at Alappuzha - one on Mullakal Rd and the other near the hospital. These places offer decent meals at cheap rates.


MUST READ FOR SHOPAHOLICS:
 Alleppey is popular for its coir industry, spices, especially pepper, areca nut. Shops in Alleppey have sold the best quality spices and fresh coconut oil. All the shops of this market are fulfilled with sandalwood, along with carved knives, bronze, combs, muslin, toys, clothes, copper wares and wood carvings. St George Seemati Store in Alleppey is famous for wide varieties of gold-bordered saris at reasonable prices. Coconut oil, areca nut, cardamom and sugar are famous brand of the Mullackal Shopping spot. This market is also well-known for lime, jasmine and sandalwood products.
